Pacific Ocean Facts and Its Underwater Creatures

The Pacific Ocean is the best illustration of marine biodiversity in the world featuring a vibrant population of whales, sharks and fish. That is why it is important to conserve this diverse marine life by means of education.

If you wish to understand everything with regards to the ocean and marine life, the best place to begin with is the biggest ocean on the planet, the Pacific Ocean. It covers about 135,663 kilometers of coastline and about 28% of the world?s surface. It stretches through the coastlines of continents such as North America, South America, Asia, and Australia. The Mariana Trench is the deepest section of any ocean on the planet with a depth of 36,201 feet. Countless islands also dot this vast ocean, such as Tahiti, Fiji, and Hawaii.

Due to its vastness, the Pacific Ocean is also home to various sea animals. It is probably the most diverse habitats in the world as you?ll find whales, dolphins, fish, and crustaceans here. From the most fearsome sharks to microscopic planktons, you will discover a diverse variety of ocean life in this part of the world. This huge assortment of marine life helps make this ocean among the best locations for biodiversity on the planet.

Just what different types of sea animals are located in the Pacific? On the topmost tier of the food chain is the whale. The blue, humpback, and sperm whales are just some of the animals that thrive in this ocean. These gentle animals are important in the environment and diversity of the Pacific. Krill, plankton, and other small fish are a substantial part of the diet of the gentle giants, although the killer whale can feed on other whales and seals. However, a few of these sea animals are on the edge of extinction.

Numerous types of sharks also call the Pacific Ocean their home. These predators tend to be misrepresented in films as well as in literary works, and this has sometimes led to the species? vulnerability and near extinction. Its skin consists of cartilage (a material that is present in human noses and ears), so that it is very difficult to slice into.

The Pacific Ocean is also where you can find several types of fish used in industrial fishing such as salmon, sardines, and mackerel. Extraordinary kinds of fish like the Cocinero, Hawaiian ladyfish, and Bering flounder are also found in this ocean. These kinds of marine life feeds a lot of people, which is one of the reasons why it is really worth sustaining.

The world?s major coral reefs are also in the Pacific. These coral reefs are home to a diversity of ocean life, which is why a great deal of effort is invested in conserving them. Reefs can take thousands of years in order to develop and some have even taken up to millions of years to form. The Pacific Ocean is home to beautiful coral reefs including the ones located in Australia, New Caledonia, and Papua New Guinea. These reefs contain huge ocean life that needs to be preserved.

The Pacific Ocean is not only a large, blue, and bare space. It?s full of sea animals and other organisms that contribute a lot to the sense of balance in the eco-system. We?ve got to realize the value of the ocean and the marine life for people like us to know the best way to preserve our heritage for ourselves and for the future generation. Safe guarding this huge collection of ocean life should be one of the top priorities in our conservation efforts, and education plays an enormous part in this. With the right education, we may just be able to help save many of the sea animals on the brink of extinction nowadays.
