Camelot Production Begins June 23
OXFORD, Miss. ? Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe?s musical drama ?Camelot,? the third production in the Oxford Shakespeare Festival?s 2011 season, opens Thursday (June 23) at the University of Mississippi?s Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts.
?Camelot? is the immortal tale of King Arthur, Guenevere, Sir Lancelot and the sinister Mordred. A poignant love story, the rich musical features such songs as ?C?est Moi,? ?If Ever I Would Leave You? and ?How to Handle a Woman.? Julia Aubrey, UM associate professor of music, directs.
The production opens at 8 p.m. Thursday, with additional performances at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $18 for adults and $14 for seniors, students and youth. Call the UM Ticket Office at 662-915-7411 or go to http://www.olemiss.edu/depts/tickets/ to order.
Making this production unique is a children?s ensemble that will set the stage for the legend. ?Prelude: The Sword and the Stone? was written especially for the Youth Music Theatre Workshop to introduce the story of how Arthur pulled Excalibur from the stone to become England?s fairest king.
